Canada admits three types of business immigrants based on an evaluation of their expected contribution to Canada’s economic and social progress.
1. Investors — Individuals who demonstrate the ability to become economically established in Canada based on their business experience, and a net worth of at least $800,000. The investor must also make an investment of $400,000 CDN in a non-interest government guaranteed investment fund every five years.
2. Entrepreneurs — Granted to individuals with a net worth of at least $300,000 and who create and actively manage a business in Canada for one year. It is also required that the entrepreneur hire one full-time Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
3. Self-employed — Applicants must demonstrate that they have relevant experience, intention and ability to become economically established in Canada. This ability is proven by the individual creating his own employment, and making a significant contribution to the cultural, artistic or athletic life of Canada, or to create their own job by buying and managing a Canadian farm.
