Service of Process in Panama

Like service of process in Uruguay, service of process in Panama may be effected using one of two methods:  formal service pursuant to the Inter-American Convention on Letters Rogatory and Additional Protocol, or informal service, intended only to meet US rules, supervised by a Panamanian attorney or private process server.  If enforcement in Panama of any ensuing US judgment is anticipated, then litigants are advised to serve process pursuant to the Inter-American Convention.

LLS has also been successful serving defendants via its private agent in Panama.  The agent will serve the documents upon the defendant and will return proof of service in English, although the documents for service themselves may have to be translated into Spanish to meet US due process requirements.
