What Is a Certified Translation?

A certified translation provides an attestation of accuracy, which then permits the translation to be submitted into a legal proceeding.

Different jurisdictions have different requirements for certified translation. Then too, within federal systems such as the US, requirements can vary from province to province or from state to state.

For example, in some jurisdictions only authorized translators are empowered to certify the accuracy of a translation

At LLS, we follow the appropriate standard for the venue where you documents need to be submitted. By conforming to the appropriate protocol, we diminish the possibility that your documents will be rejected by the receiving authority.

How Does Certification Differ from Authentication?

While certification attests to the accuracy and quality of the translated document, authentication attests to legitimacy and authority of the signature(s) affixed to the document.

You can think of authentication as an old-fashioned block chain that begins with notarization. After a translator signs the finished product, the document is notarized. The notary seal confirms the identity of the signer with their signature. That seal is then brought to designated personnel at the Department of State who attest to the legitimacy of the notary as being registered to perform such tasks within the state.

This process of authentication can continue up to the federal level when deemed necessary.
