On-Site Interpreters: Consecutive Interpreting

On-site interpreting is the gold standard when providing interpreting services for workers’ comp or personal injury claims. When interpreters are physically present, they are able to provide the most accurate translations.

At LLS, we recommend consecutive interpreting for small group settings such as medical examinations and legal proceedings.

Here’s how it works: one person speaks in the source language and the interpreter then renders this into the target language. The second speaker responds in the target language, and the interpreter renders the response back into the source language.

In instances when and/or where on-site interpreting is not feasible, we recommend utilizing remote interpreting.

Remote Interpreters: Telephonic & Video Remote Interpreting

LLS provides two forms of remote interpreting for workers’ comp and personal injury claims: telephonic interpreting and video remote interpreting (VRI). These remote access options are ideal when an interpreter needs to be scheduled on short notice or when an interpreter who speaks the claimant’s language is not locally available.

Telephonic interpreting allows multiple parties — including the interpreter, claimant, medical personnel, and/or legal professionals — to hear and communicate with each via a telephone.

Video remote interpreting can be conceived of as an enhanced form of remote interpreting as it provides a live video stream where the interpreter and other participants are able to see each other.

VRI has two advantages when compared to telephonic interpreting:

• VRI allows for remote interpreting of unspoken, purely visual signed languages like American Sign Language. This is a unique benefit of VRI compared to telephonic interpreting.
• VRI ameliorates the loss of non-verbal information.

VRI platforms can easily be accessed through any standard web browser on a laptop, desktop, smart phone, tablet, or other mobile device.
